Hillary Clinton Visits Knotty Tie
On Wednesday August 3rd, 2016 Knotty Tie was honored to receive a visit from America's very first female Presidential candidate, Hillary Rodham Clinton. The Knotty team was somewhat prepared for a guest of this caliber after a visit from United States Secretary of the Treasury, Jack Lew earlier this year.
Clinton's arrival came with emphasis on the importance of American manufacturing. She took the time to meet each member of the design staff and all of the manufacturing staff which is comprised of resettled refugees.
Clinton also received a full tour of the facility and learned about our design and manufacturing processes. (Pictured below is design leader Almenia demonstrating custom ties with a cat design to the presidential candidate.)
Taken by both the social enterprise and our commitment to making things in America, Clinton chose Knotty Tie Co. to highlight American businesses that make products in the USA.
She addressed the press and our employees stating, "I am very proud of what Jeremy and Mark have built here, what the designers and employees are doing here and the outreach to refugees and what that means to so many people's lives."
She continued to speak with the conviction that if we as Americans seek to make America great again, we need to make products in the US rather than outsourcing labor. She criticized other America business owners who choose to outsource jobs instead of finding ways to manufacture products domestically and encouraged them to strengthen our economy by creating jobs at home.
Clinton argued, "If given a chance, workers in America can out compete and out work workers anywhere else." She commended Knotty Tie Co. for doing every single step of the process ranging from designing to printing to manufacturing, in house in Denver, CO, powered by hard working citizens.
She furthered this idea by declaring, "We don't have to give an inch to anyone. We can get our heads together and figure out how to make more things in America, how we sell, how we export...I'm going to do everything I can to shine the spotlight on businesses and workers that I know about."
By the end of her visit Clinton purchased her very own Knotty Tie tie, enthusiastically proclaiming, "The colors look great!"
Knotty Tie co-founder Jeremy Priest later reflected upon the day's events saying, "Our staff is really young, and hasn't had a lot of opportunities to be recognized for the work that they've done in their lives... Just really proud that they got to experience that today..." Priest ended his reflection saying, "It's surreal, I think this will be a moment I reflect upon for the rest of my life."
The day Hillary Clinton spent with us will forever be a part of our company history and we are very honored to have been recognized in this way for our hard work. Knotty Tie Co has grown tremendously from it's beginnings as a Kickstarter campaign and we look forward to what the future holds. We thank you for your continued support!
